Meeting Africa’s Energy Needs and Aspirations: Options and Opportunities for Young Professionals
According to a recent SDG 7 tracking report, about $40 billion of annual investments are required for Africa to meet the continent’s energy needs. This corroborates the result of a study carried out by the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, which indicated that 600 million people do not have access to electricity and 900 million have no access to clean cooking fuel. As Africa aims to transform and scale up its energy accessibility and affordability levels, significant levels of investment in energy infrastructure, exploration, and exploitation provide ample opportunities for its young population.
Hence, it is imperative for her energy young professionals to explore possible roles and pathways to contribute to the development of the continent by understanding the nexus of energy accessibility, affordability, and sustainability.
